Best Time to Wash Your Hair Before and After Color Appointment?
Updated: Feb 16
SHOULD I WASH MY HAIR BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?
Washing your hair at least 1-2 days before is best. Especially if you are sensitive to hair color. Your natural oils will add a protective layer to your scalp.
Depending on what your hair goals are, ask your stylist if you should be washing with a clarifying shampoo. I sometimes have my clients do this if I'm trying to have them wash out some previous color.
For example, my stylist Yolanda is going back to a vibrant red. She's been coloring it with a brown gloss color. In this case, I want to get as much of the gloss out of her hair so it helps with the vibrancy.
Another tip: Please come in with it DRY. Please help me out and come in with it dry.
HOW LONG SHOULD YOU WAIT TO WASH YOUR HAIR AFTER A COLOR SERVICE?
GREAT QUESTION! It's best to wait up to 3 days. This allows the cuticle of your hair to close, locking in those color molecules. This is especially helpful when vibrant colors or toners are used.
Using cool water also helps close the cuticle of the hair.
